How to get Rayquaza in Pokémon Light Platinum?
Before being able to catch any Hoenn legendary, the first thing you have to do is head to Snowce City and battle Steven. It will be an easy battle against his 3 Pokémon, but it is the necessary trigger for the Hoenn legendaries to appear throughout the region.
Rayquaza is the iconic mascot Pokémon of Pokémon Emerald and one of the most powerful legendaries in the game. In this guide, we will show you the exact steps to locate it at Mt. Sky.
IMPORTANT: It is mandatory to have completed both Pokémon Leagues (Zhery and Lauren) to be able to catch most of these Pokémon.
The first thing you will have to do is head to IRONNEM CITY, the same city where Deoxys is located. Once there, head east of the city and use Surf.
Following the sea route, you will come across some whirlpools blocking the way. In Pokémon Light Platinum, "Whirlpool" functions as a TM that you must teach to one of your Pokémon to be able to cross these obstacles.
After passing the whirlpools, continue east until you spot a cave entrance. This is MT. SKY, the home of Rayquaza. The path inside is quite linear and intuitive until you reach the top.
Rayquaza will appear at level 50. Although it has a reasonable catch rate, we highly recommend saving the game before interacting with it, because if you make it faint, it will not appear again.
Did you know? Rayquaza is one of the very few Pokémon capable of learning the move Fly naturally by leveling up, without the need to use HM02.
